McClaren backs Capello to succeed
Fabio Capello
Fabio Capello has the perfect CV says Steve McClaren
Former manager Steve McClaren believes that Fabio Capello is the right man to revive England's fortunes.

The Italian was named as his successor in December after the ex-Middlesbrough boss was sacked by the FA for failing to qualify for Euro 2008.

And McClaren feels the former Real Madrid, Roma and AC Milan man has the "perfect CV" for the demanding role.

"I think he has all the experience, has worked with top players and is ready for it," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"He is the right age, has the right amount of experience, and I think he will be a success."

There has been criticism of the FA's decision to appoint a foreigner, and McClaren feels it is important for the Italian to adapt.

He said: "I think he will be a success as long as he grasps the English culture and English mentality and how England win games.

"The key thing is that this is the perfect time to come in.

"He has seven months to prepare and look at the players before the campaign starts again for World Cup qualification."
