N Ireland skipper Sammy Clingan scored the early winner |
Northern Ireland captain Sammy Clingan scored one of the fastest ever international goals to secure a friendly victory over Israel on Monday. The Nottingham Forest midfielder netted after just 14 seconds after a cross from Dungannon Swifts player David Scullion was only partially cleared.
Mananger Roy Millar was delighted with the performance. "To come to Israel and to win 1-0 is a good victory," he said.
"It was a very professional show. We have now learned how to win games."
Millar is now looking to complete the double on Wednesday at Hapoel Nazareth
The matches are being used to prepare N Ireland for the Euro 2007 qualifier against Liechtenstein in the spring.
The preliminary round two-legged tie will be played on April 12 (away) and May 10 (home).
