Lars Lagerback brings his Sweden side to Easter Road |
Sweden coach Lars Lagerback says that Scotland are no longer a team to be feared on the world stage. "Results for Scotland have not been so good recently and you have to go back to their appearance in the 1998 World Cup when I knew every player," he said.
"I used to know everything about Scotland and their ability.
"But, these days, a lot of their players are playing for smaller teams and not at Celtic or Rangers because they have too many foreigners."
Lagerback's brings his Sweden side to Easter Road on Wednesday for a friendly at a time when Scotland have plunged to an all-time low of 77th in the Fifa world rankings.
Manager Berti Vogts has also been replaced with caretaker Tommy Burns after taking just one point from the World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Moldova in October.
"I can't say that we fear any players, but we respect them," said Lagerback.
"The Scotland team is not as familiar now. But, a few years ago, the side had a lot of great individual players.
"I have seen a lot of their matches in the past and, when we played them in the qualifiers for the World Cup in 1998, they caused us a lot of problems."
