 | WORLD CUP QUALIFYING GRP 6 Wales v Northern Ireland Wed 8 Sep, Cardiff 2000 BST kick-off |
Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has been told to be wary when he meets up with his old pal Jeff Whitley in the World Cup qualifier in Cardiff on Wednesday. Whitley lived for a time in Wales and became a friend of the Birmingham star.
"Robbie and I have played against each other a few times," said Whitley. "We have respect for each other as we grew up together.
"He used to wind people up, but not as much as now! When you face one of your mates you want to dominate him.''
Whitley is determined to savour the atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium with a 70,000 full house.
Northern Ireland are desperate to bounce back after the 3-0 home defeat by Poland in the opening game.
Whitley said: "We need to perform as well as we know we can.
"We have got to look forward to games like this. They do not come every week for a lot of the players.
"We do not need to fear anything. The pressure is on them. We can play a lot better."
