 | WORLD CUP QUALIFYING GRP 6 Wales v Northern Ireland Wed 8 Sep, Cardiff 2000 BST kick-off |
Hibernian defender Colin Murdock is poised to come out of the international wilderness when Northern Ireland face Wales in Cardiff on Wednesday night. Manager Lawrie Sanchez is expected to reshuffle his side after glaring defensive lapses in the opening World Cup qualifying defeat by Poland.
Aaron Hughes is expected to revert from right-back to a central role with Murdock and Mark Williams either side.
In the new 3-5-2 formation Motherwell's Stephen Craigan is poised to miss out.
It will be the 28-year-old Murdock's first competitive start since the 3-0 defeat by Spain almost two years ago.
Murdock won the first of his 21 international appearances in the 3-0 victory over Luxembourg four years ago.
Sanchez is still deliberating over the two wide midfield berths with Tony Capaldi, George McCartney, Keith Gillespie, Steve Jones, and Mark Clyde all in the mix.
In the middle of the park, Sanchez is expected to go again with Jeff Whitley, Michael Hughes and Damien Johnson.
Despite misfiring against Poland, James Quinn will continue as David Healy's partner up front at the Millennium Stadium.
