Evesham aiming for FA Cup shock

Paul West
West says his side have earned their shot at an FA Cup upset

Evesham United manager Paul West says staff at the club are excited about the FA Cup trip to Torquay, the biggest match in their history.

"Everyone is buzzing but we're not going there just to make the numbers up," West told BBC Hereford & Worcester.

"Saturday's no fluke - it's been [achieved] through sheer hard work."

The Robins qualified for the FA Cup first round for the first time by beating Rushden and Diamonds 2-0.

Torquay, who are on an 11-match unbeaten run and lie second in the Blue Square Premier, are clear favourites according to West.

"We know they're a quality side," he added. "They'll be very confident as their record shows - but records are there to be broken."

He says he will prepare his squad as normal for the game, but they will be travelling in style.

"We're going to have a toilet on the coach so we're going to treat them on the way down there, and maybe have a couple of cheese sandwiches and a bottle of water," he joked.

"But, on a serious note, it's simply about keeping the players feet on the ground."

The Southern League Premier Division side have brought in Redditch United striker Anthony Robinson in time for the game.

Gary Hays, who broke his hand on Saturday, hopes to play in a special cast but Danny Hodnett will miss the match through suspension.
