It is part of a sports complex which includes plans for a gymnasium, tennis courts and hotel.

Boavista were the only club that carried on playing during the Euro 2004 venue construction process.

Work began on the Bessa stadium in the summer of 1998, and finally finished more than five years later, rounding off the club's centenary celebrations.

Portugal's main northern city is renowned for its world-famous port wine, produced in the Douro Valley, and hundreds of samples can be tasted at at the Solar Vinho do Porto villa.

Named European capital of culture in 2001, Porto has plenty for sightseers including an imposing cathedral and the artistic tiled interior of the central rail station.

For something more lively, a festival in honour of the city's patron saint, St John, takes place during Euro 2004 on 23-24 June.

Festivities include the lighting of bonfires, a fireworks display over the River Douro and revellers hitting each other playfully with giant leeks or plastic hammers.
