Capacity at the Coimbra stadium has been doubled after an extra tier was added to the existing stands. The renovation was a colourful project - marked out by bright blue and orange seats, two-thirds of which are covered.
A new development around the stadium includes a swimming pool, running track, and underground parking.
Special bus and train shuttle services have been laid on to ferry fans from the city centre to the stadium.
Focus on Coimbra Coimbra is a picturesque and lively city, which is home to Portugal's oldest university.
It hosts a massive party in May where thousands of students burn their gowns and ribbons to mark the end of the school year.
Most of Coimbra's restaurants can be found in the narrow streets by Largo da Portagem, the main square, with bars clustered around the Praca da Republica.
But motorists should be wary of driving into the central area as many streets are closed to cars.
