| Saturday, 11 January, 2003, 17:01 GMT Fulham hold Bolton ![]() Plenty of industry but no end product for either team Bolton 0-0 Fulham Bolton and Fulham both had opportunities to take three points from their encounter, but a lack of composure ultimately resulted in a stalemate. Henrik Pedersen had three good opportunities to seal a win for the home team, wearing a special strip replicating the club's first colours to celebrate their 125th anniversary. While Fulham saw Facundo Sava's goal ruled out for offside.
Fulham remain 16th in the Premiership table and Bolton 17th - just one point above third-bottom Sunderland. Bolton, with Youri Djorkaeff back in the team and Delroy Facey making his first Premiership start for the club, tried to push forward in front of their own fans. And the home team created the better of the first-half chances while Fulham mustered little of note.
Pedersen failed to convert an early chance while Jay Jay Okocha mesmerised the Cottagers backline with his mazy dribbling skills. He also forced a decent save from Maik Taylor with a 30 yard free-kick. Pedersen should have done better after getting the wrong side of Steve Finnan and controlling a long ball over the top. But he lifted his shot over the crossbar. Fulham - after a disappointing opening 45 minutes - began the second half strongly.
Louis Saha forced a tidy save from Jussi Jaaskelainen and shortly afterwards headed the ball towards Sava, who put the ball into the net. But much to the relief of the home team the goal was ruled out for offside. Fulham continued to press and Malbranque should have scored but pulled the ball wide after picking his spot. Pedersen had a late chance for Wanderers but it was an afternoon of missed chances and frustration for both teams. Bolton: Jaaskelainen, Charlton, Bergsson, Campo, Barness, Frandsen, Okocha (Walters 83), Gardner, Djorkaeff, Pedersen, Facey (Nolan 69). Booked: Charlton. Fulham: Taylor, Finnan, Goma, Djetou, Brevett, Goldbaek, Davis, Malbranque, Legwinski, Sava (Boa Morte 65), Saha. Booked: Finnan, Sava. Attendance: 25,156 Referee: A Wiley (Staffordshire). |
