| Thursday, 13 February, 2003, 22:33 GMT Leyton Orient 0-1 York A 69th-minute goal from York's Anthony Shandran earned the visitors their fifth away win of the season over Leyton Orient. The match marked Orient's eighth encounter against the cash-strapped visitors without a win. They might have taken a second-minute lead when midfielder Matt Lockwood prodded the ball against City's post. A more spectacular effort from York striker Jonathan Parkin thundered against the home crossbar with goalkeeper Scott Barrett beaten. Lockwood was again close to a goal with a fierce header which went just wide as the second half opened, and he then had a volley charged down in Orient's next attack. Shandran's glancing header from Tom Cowan's long throw, his first goal for City since joining from Burnley, settled the issue. There was still time however for Orient's Chris Tate to send Gary Alexander bearing down upon Michael Ingham, only for the City keeper to make a brave save at his feet. Ingham parried a third effort from substitute Lee Thorpe to seal his side's win in a tight end-to-end contest. Leyton Orient: Barrett, Joseph, Miller, Smith, Lockwood, Barnard, Harris, Hutchings, Brazier, Ibehre, Alexander. Subs: Thorpe, Billy Jones, Martin, Tate, Morris. York: Ingham, Smith, Brass, Jones, Cooper, Bullock, Potter, Cowan, Shandran, Nogan, Parkin. Subs: Mathie, Wood, Fox, Collinson, Wise. Referee: B Curson (Leicestershire) |
