Vaughan moves to ease fears
Prenton Park, home of Tranmere Rovers
Plans would see Rovers move from Prenton Park
Chester City chairman Stephen Vaughan has tried to calm Tranmere fans' fears as he steps up his attempt to buy the Second Division club.

Vaughan insisted that confirmation of his bid for Tranmere is not a prelude to merging the near neighbours.

Merseyside boxing promoter Vaughan outlined his proposals in a letter to Tranmere owner Peter Johnson and chairman Lorraine Rogers, details of which appeared in the Liverpool Daily Post.

Plans drawn up by the Chester City chairman's company Vaughan Promotions include a new ground for Tranmere on the Wirral.

The new stadium will be financed by the sale of Rovers' current ground Prenton Park for development.

We believe we have properly put to rest all the concerns that were raised

Vaughan Promotions general manager Lee Maloney

During the construction of the new ground, Tranmere will play at Chester's Diva Stadium.

This is likely to raise fears among Tranmere supporters of the club's future under the Vaughan umbrella.

But Vaughan Promotions general manager Lee Maloney insisted there was no intention to merge the clubs.

Maloney said: "We believe we have properly put to rest all the concerns that were raised by the existing Tranmere Rovers Board.

"We can offer a bright, exciting new future for Tranmere".

Vaughan bought Conference club 13 months ago.
