The Millers were left facing an uphill task when Pollitt was red-carded in the 13th minute for handling the ball outside the area and Derby took full advantage to ease to a 3-0 victory. Moore was incensed by the decision and immediately called for the introduction of television replays to avoid crucial mistakes. "I think that for major decisions like these TV has got to be used. Decisions like these can cost millions and it's time that TV re-runs came into the game," he said. "There is now so much at stake and I'm sure that a lot of managers would go for it. It would mean only stopping the game for 30 seconds or so and I can't see a problem with that. "I just don't know why people don't want to go down that road, I would certainly vote for it no problem whatsoever. I can see no logic as to why it should not be used." Moore added: "I think the referee was in a better position to make a decision and I think he should have over-ruled the linesman.
"All of my players said that at worst the ball was on the line and Polly said he had part of his body out of the box which is maybe why the linesman flagged. "But surely if there was any doubt at all it should have been given to us. "This has spoilt the game as a spectacle and although Derby have been worth the victory they have been given a helping hand." Moore's misery was compounded when Giorgi Kinkladze curled in the resulting free-kick after Pollitt's departure and Adam Bolder added a second before half time. Izale McLeod put the result beyond doubt in the 49th minute after some neat build-up play from Kinkladze and Warren Barton. Derby boss John Gregory admitted the sending-off was a harsh one but was pleased with the way his team coped against 10 men. "It might have been an unjustified sending-off but we know all about that," said Gregory. "We have had six sendings-off this season and we are not a dirty team. "As always these things balance themselves out over the course of the season and what matters is that when you get an opportunity like this that you make sure you take it." |
