Barry Ashby took charge of Welling in the absence of Jamie Day

Blue Square Bet South leaders Welling United extended their lead at the top to five points by beating Woking 3-2.

Ben Martin gave Welling the lead early while captain Jack Parkinson scored the second and third for the Wings' sixth straight win.

Dover won 3-2 at Chelmsford, Bromley also won but Dartford and Tonbridge lost while Cray won in Ryman Premier.

Maidstone striker Shaun Welford scored five in their 9-0 win over Corinthian in the FA cup.

The Wings' victory was their sixth in a row and was done without manager Jamie Day, who was out of the country at a wedding, leaving assistant Barry Ashby to take charge.

Ashby told BBC Radio Kent: "If anyone had said at the start of August the points tally we'd have a month later we would have bitten your hand up. We'll take every game as it comes though.

"I know people are going to say we're talking it down. We can win it but there are four or five other teams who can also say we can win it. We've just got to carry on doing the right things," he said.

Parkinson was reluctant to take all the credit for his role in the side despite scoring twice.

He said: "We're more than chuffed. To walk off with three points and two goals for myself, me and all the boys are happy. Today was a matter of turning up and treating it like another game and we've done that."

"It's a big result in the dressing room but it's too early to say it's a big result in the season."

Dover Athletic kicked off 40 minutes after their rivals, firstly due to being a part of non league ground hop day, where fans were encouraged to watch three games in three different divisions in the same day, and then crowd congestion delaying the game.

They then beat Chelmsford 3-2 with goals from Harry Baker, George Purcell and Billy Bricknell against his former club.

Dartford's 3-2 defeat at Basingstoke was their first defeat of the season but still leaves them inside the top three in the table, while Tonbridge's defence was once again exposed as they lost 5-1 to Farnborough. It means they've conceded fifteen goals in their first four home games.

Cray Wanderers are third in Ryman Premier after a 3-0 win over East Thurrock.

Speaking after their third straight win, boss Ian Jenkins said: "It's brilliant, the squad is fantastic at the moment, it's young, it's got enthusiasm and it's given me a new lease of life."

Maidstone United brushed aside any worries of an FA Cup upset at Kent League side Corinthian. The Stones won 9-0 with Shaun Welford scoring five of them.

Hythe Town, who reached the first round proper last year, moved a step nearer to repeating the feat with a 1-0 win at Chessington and Hook.

Canterbury City are the new Kent League leaders. They beat Greenwich 2-0 while the rest of the division were playing in the FA Cup. Bly Spartans made it five wins out of five at the top of the Kent Invicta League as they won 2-1 at Phoenix Sports, while Bredhurst Juniors remain top of the Kent County League following their goalless draw at Tudor Sports.
