Dartford boss Tony Burman optimistic over next season

Dartford boss Tony Burman believes his side will be better equipped to compete with the top sides in Blue square Bet South next season.

Darts looked like they would be relegation candidates for much of the season as they struggled to get out of the bottom three.

But they recovered well to finish 10th and Burman said: "You learn by your mistakes and I did make some.

"But I feel like I'll learn from them and be a better manager next season."

Burman told BBC Radio Kent: "As a manager I'm delighted that I've done my first season at that level and you learn things all the time.

"You learn a lot when you're in the bottom three, that's for sure. We've come out of it with flying colours but you don't want to be down there too long."

Another Kent club, Tonbridge Angels, will find themselves in a similar position to Dartford next season as they step up from the Ryman League to Blue Square Bet South for the first time.

Burman warned that from experience, Angels boss Tom Warrilow may have to sacrifice entertaining football for a more clinical style of play if they want to do well.

He said: "You have to wait for the opportunity to pounce and score a goal, but you have to be solid and not concede any goals.

"But they'll do all right, they'll have to work hard, be organised.

"In the Ryman League you may have been able to be a little bit more flamboyant and go for goals and win 6-5, but in this league you just can't do that."
