Faversham deny criticising ex-manager's playing style
Faversham won the Kent League title in emphatic style last season
Ryman League side Faversham Town have denied claims that the club had an issue with former manager Justin Luchford's playing style.
Luchford quit suddenly last Wednesday, saying: "For three years I've had my critics about the way we play."
But Faversham chairman Bob Mason told BBC Radio Kent: "He brought success to the club and you can't take away what Justin's achieved.
"We'd all like to get the ball down and play like Barcelona but we're not."
He added: "You don't agree with everything, but at the end of the day he probably didn't agree with everything we did as a board."
Luchford led Faversham to a historic league and cup double last season - as they won promotion to the Ryman League and triumphed in the Kent Senior Trophy.
But he stepped down saying: "The fans have won - they've been on my back for a long time about my style of football.
"But I don't just send the guys out there to kick the ball and run after it.
"We use a style of play - a formula - that I've worked on for over five years.
"It's been successful and for me when you're recruited as a manager at a football club you're recruited to get results and that's what I try to do.
"I got results but unfortunately there were some non-footballing issues that have meant I've had to leave the club."
