Nuneaton Town beat Leamington to close gap on leaders

Non-league football

Nuneaton Town beat Leamington 2-0 to close the gap on Southern League Premier Division leaders Farnborough to just four points.

Boro overcame their local rivals at the New Windmill thanks to goals from striker Chris Dillon and a penalty save by goalkeeper Darren Acton.

Manager Kevin Wilkin told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire: "We scored the goals at the right time.

"It was a solid performance and I thought we were value for the win."

Nuneaton took the lead against Brakes courtesy of Dillon's initial strike deep into first-half stoppage time.

Mark Bellingham earned the home side a penalty shortly before the hour mark but saw his spot-kick hit the legs of Acton.

Dillon then grabbed his second to condemn Leamington to a fifth consecutive defeat.

Also, a 6-0 stuffing at Hednesford Town confirmed Rugby Town's relegation to Division One Midlands.

Valley will face Atherstone Town and Bedworth United next season - the Adders came out on top in the derby at Sheepy Road, winning 1-0.
