AFC Telford midfielder Liam Blakeman has received managerial support for his performances in the Blue Square North.

Blakeman's laid-back style does not sit well with some supporters but his five league goals have boosted the Bucks' play-off chances.

Telford assistant manager Larry Chambers told BBC Radio Shropshire: "Because of the way he plays, fans either like him or they don't.

"But he's been influential this year in the games where we've played well."

Blakeman, 27, gave up a full-time contract at Southport to move to Telford and has previously been described by his manager Rob Smith as the best midfielder in the Blue Square North.

Telford added to their midfield options in January when they signed former Wolves player Kevin O'Connor, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-18, U20 and U21 levels.

"O'Connor's made a great start to his time at Telford and he's the one everyone wants to talk about," Chambers added.

"But we're not a one-man band. Liam Blakeman hasn't had the credit he deserves."
