Midfielder Dan Smith leaves Weymouth to release funds
Weymouth winger Dan Smith has left the club by mutual consent in a bid by boss Jerry Gill to release funds at the ailing Blue Square South side.
Smith, 20, joined the club from Plymouth Argyle in February having previously spent time at Morecambe.
But Weymouth boss Jerry Gill told Non-League Daily: "I haven't got a lot of money to spend and need to spend that on other areas of the squad."
Gill also confirmed he would not be signing Canadian Jordan Santiago.
"I haven't a clue who he is," Gill said of the Cardiff City goalkeeper.
Gill said he would be prudent in future signings, adding: "I think this club has been used far too much as a gravy train in the past and that needs to stop.
"Me, the chairman and Gary Calder need to make sure things are kept in a stringent budget."
Weymouth currently lie bottom of the Blue Square South on 18 points.
