Hessenthaler says their poor recent run has provided a reality check
Dover manager Andy Hessenthaler is playing down his side's chances of winning a third straight promotion.
The Whites' flying start saw them become bookmakers' favourites to win Blue Square South but two consecutive defeats have dropped them to second.
"It was only the bookies that made us favourites. Maybe that bit of pressure hasn't helped us," Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.
"We've got players who a couple of years ago were playing in Ryman South."
"If we get a play-off place this season, I think it would be a tremendous achievement by the players - I don't think anyone could ask any more from us," he added.
"There's a long way to go, a lot of football to be played and I think me and Darren, my assistant, are just starting to see what you need to play in this division.
"It may mean that we need to have a year in this division, just to get used to know what it takes to get out of this league and I think we'll be better for that."
