Harrogate Town have signed former Rotherham United midfielder Peter Holmes in time for their FA Cup tie at Bradford Park Avenue.
The 28-year-old was on loan at York City last season before being released by Rotherham at the end of the year.
Town manager Simon Weaver told BBC Radio York: "He has got a lot of league experience and we've got him at the right age.
"When you look at our squad we've got just a couple of older heads."
He continued: "Circumstances have dictated we went for youth.
"There's that mid-range of pro that every club and side need where they're really in their peak and prime and before the legs have gone.
"But they know the game and we need that nous in the team.
"I think Peter is one of those players that has got that knowledge of how to get through a game and build a good game for himself."
