Blue Square South club Weston-super-Mare have secured the services of Clayton Fortune until at least the end of the season.
The 26-year-old centre back rejected an approach from league rivals Bath City and pledged his future to the Seagulls.
Fortune had been on non-contract terms, which had allowed the Romans to serve seven days' notice to sign him.
However, the Seagulls convinced Fortune to put pen-to-paper before Tuesday night's game with Worcester City.
"It's great news that we've managed to keep him when other clubs were interested, said manager Andy Gurney.
"It shows that we are trying to keep our best players and not get rid of them."
