Steve McNulty has become Fleetwood Town's fifth signing of the summer after completing a club transfer record from Barrow.
The 25-year-old has joined the Blue Square North side for £17,000 following several days of negotiation.
"He claimed the league's player of the season 12 months ago," said chairman Andy Pilley.
"This large commitment far exceeds our previous transfer record and is a clear statement of our intent."
McNulty started his career at Liverpool's academy, where he captained the side before being released in the summer of 2003.
He later joined Unibond League side Burscough, before moving to Vauxhall Motors two years later.
After being released in 2007 he joined Barrow, scoring on his home debut against Leigh RMI.
