New role for King at Chelmsford

Jeff King
King guided the club to fifth place in the Blue Square South last season

Chelmsford City manager Jeff King has become the Blue Square South club's new director of football.

Head coach Glenn Pennyfather will take over the running of the first team.

King and Pennyfather moved to Chelmsford from Canvey Island in 2006 and guided the club to the Ryman Premier Division title two years later.

Clarets chairman Mansell Wallace told BBC Essex: "Jeff wanted to secure his long-term position with Chelmsford, it seemed a natural progression."

He continued: "It was a joint decision between Jeff, myself and the board. We want to get to the Blue Square Premier and Jeff has a wealth of experience at that level.

"It's not only on the park we've got to move the club forward, but off the park as well, from the finances to the infrastructure of the ground and Jeff has a wonderful input there.

"Jeff's delighted, him and I had a drink over it and I assure you Jeff's told me its exactly what he wants."
