Worcester City have made known to the Football Association which league they would prefer to play in next season.
But, amidst speculation that they might return to the Blue Square North after a season in the South, City will not find out any decision until next week.
A club statement said: "Our feedback to the FA is in confidence. But the board has made its preferences known."
City were initially told that they would spend a minimum three seasons in the Blue Square South.
But the relegation of three southern-based teams (Woking, Weymouth and Lewes), coupled with another more southerly side Gloucester City's promotion, appears to have allowed Worcester the option of switching back 'up North'.
"The FA have assured us they will take due regard of our input," continued the club statement.
"But we are specifically requested not to make public our thoughts as part of the FA's wish to avoid unnecessary conjecture prior to them finalising the various details in a few days' time.
"We will comment further on our reasoning when the decision is known.
"Our conclusion is that there is little to choose between both options both from a footballing and commercial standpoint.
"Continuity and recent knowledge of opposition is balanced against potential for local derbies but also some very long away trips.
"It is also unsure at this stage where local teams such as Telford will be playing next year as they are involved in play-offs."
