Boston to discuss Welsh's future

Steve Welsh
Welsh was given the task of making sure Boston avoided relegation

Boston United chairman David Newton has said the club will decide within the next week whether to keep Steve Welsh as manager or appoint a successor.

Former youth-team coach Welsh was given the role until the end of the season after Tommy Taylor left in November.

Boston reached safety in the Unibond Premier Division in their final match.

Newton told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "We need a manager who'll take us forward and it's up to us to decide if Steve's that man or we need someone else."

Newton added: "It was a big ask to change from youth-team coach to first-team manager, and we've plotted Steve's progress.

"It'll be decided as soon as possible because we want to be fair to Steve and to everybody else."
