Neil Aspin has feared he would lose Nathan Peat for the last few weeks
Harrogate Town defender Nathan Peat has agreed terms with Gainsborough Trinity after speaking to a number of clubs.
Peat, 26, was briefly transfer-listed along with the rest of the squad last month to try and help cut costs.
But, now Peat has completed a two-match suspension, Town manager Neil Aspin expects his sale to go through.
"It's very disappointing. He's a player that we desperately wanted to stay and a player that's always been happy here," Aspin told BBC Radio York.
"He's been a good player for me. He's got tremendous ability and I didn't want to see him go.
I'd hope that one day I could have him in my team again because I feel he is an asset

"But, in the current financial climate we're in, it was felt better that he could move on."
Peat will still leave the CNG Stadium with Aspin's best wishes.
"From the lad's point of view, it's better for him the fact that he's got a better contract," said Aspin. "Also he's got a contract for next season so I can't be hypocritical and say that I expected him to stay.
"If most people were in the same position then you'd have to look at securing the future for yourself and your family which is what he's done.
"So he doesn't leave with any bad feelings on my behalf. He's been a good player for me and I wish him all the best in his career.
"I hope that one day I could have him in my team again because I feel he is an asset."
