Alfreton Town's 10-match unbeaten away run in the Blue Square North came to an end at the hands of fellow promotion-hopefuls Droylsden on Saturday.
The Reds, missing injured star striker Liam Hearn and suspended defender Matt Wilson, looked set for a point from an evenly contested encounter.
But a freak goal by Tony Gray, whose 66th-minute cross looped over keeper Kyle Sutcliffe, opened the scoring.
And Neil Sorvel volleyed the second to wrap up the points for the home side.
Nicky Law's Alfreton are next in action on Tuesday when they have an away game against Blyth Spartans.
