Worcester begin fund-raising push

Anthony Hampson
Hampson is confident he can keep the club afloat

Worcester City staff and supporters will come together to try and raise money for the financially-troubled Blue Square South club.

They will meet at St. Georges Lane on Tuesday 30 December after getting a breathing space by the club's bankers.

Chairman Anthony Hampson told BBC Hereford and Worcester they simply have to raise cash as soon as possible

"There's a lot of good will out there, a lot of people who want the club to succeed."

I am sure that if we all put our heads together, football can survive in Worcester

City chairman Anthony Hampson
Hampson says the club need 80,000 in the short term and feels if they start to raise money the bank will give them further leeway.

They have until the end of January after the bank agreed to extend the club's overdraft.

Hampson says fund raising will have to be a joint effort from all involved:

"I am sure that if we all put our heads together, football can survive in Worcester."
