MacPherson leaves struggling Boro

Stafford Rangers

Stafford Rangers have terminated the contract of midfielder David MacPherson by mutual consent.

MacPherson's exit follows the refusal by the Stafford players to take a pay cut proposed by the board to help the club stave off administration.

However, manager Steve Bull has said he will be sticking by the club, for the time being at least.

"Whatever happens, I'll stick with it. If it starts affecting my family life, then I'll walk away," said Bull.

In a joint statement, issued after Saturday's defeat by Vauxhall Motors, the Stafford players rejected a deal that proposed to end the payments of bonuses and halve the wages of the squad.

We hope that the board reconsiders its position or is able to find other means of raising money instead of expecting the players to carry the can

"The unanimous answer is we cannot agree to these terms," said the statement.

"Players have commitments based on their contractual arrangement with the club and cannot afford to take these cuts in wages."

The statement continued: "We believe the next step for the board is to place all the contracted players on the transfer list as soon as possible and circulate the names of the non-contract players around other clubs.

"We hope that the board reconsiders its position or is able to find other means of raising money instead of expecting the players to carry the can for the financial plight of the club."

Former Wolves striker Bull added: "The players came in and showed character and said they'll stick by me. I have got to wait and pick up the pieces."
