Redditch stun leaders Southport

Redditch United came back from two goals down to stun Blue Square North leaders Southport with a 3-2 win at Haig Avenue on Saturday.

Michael Powell put the home side ahead on 18 minutes while Mark Duffy's header doubled their lead five minutes later.

Danny Edwards scored for the Reds on 40 minutes before Mark Rawle equalised nine minutes after the break.

Southport missed a penalty before Lee Ayres secured the Reds' victory 10 minutes from time.

Redditch manager Gary Whild told BBC Hereford & Worcester he felt their positive approach had paid off.

"We have got two wide-men in Danny Edwards and Owen Storey, so we try to be attacking when we can," he said.

"In the second half, with the conditions in our favour, we had a lot of width and looked dangerous.

"They're a young team and we've got a lot of good players with potential but they have got to believe in themselves.

"I thought that in the second half they did and we scored a couple of good goals.

"Fair play to the lads, they showed a lot of character to come back from two goals down against a team that was top of the league."
