Goals from Jamie Vermiglio and Gavin Cowan ended AFC Telford's mini-slump with a 2-1 win over Gainsborough on Saturday in the Blue Square North.

"That's the luck we needed," boss Rob Smith told BBC Radio Shropshire, "and hopefully that'll kick us on a bit.

"Now we've got to stack up as many points as we can in September and put in good performances consistently."

Club chairman Lee Carter added: "I was delighted for players. They just hadn't been having the rub of the green."

Carter had called for extra supporters to lift the side, and it worked.

"It was a great response," he said. "We need maximum effort from everyone, on and off the pitch."
