Harrogate sign midfielder Ormsby

Non-League

Harrogate Town have signed 18-year-old attacking midfielder Liam Ormsby, the son of former Aston Villa and Leeds United defender Brendan.

The teenager was on the books at Barnsley but has since trained with Town and impressed manager Neil Aspin.

Town general manager Alan Williams told BBC Radio York: "He's a piece in the jigsaw that's going to take us to the championship, a fantastic footballer.

"For such a young man he's got such an old head on young shoulders."

Williams added: "Liam's got a good football pedigree so we're pleased to have him. The chairman is delighted and he's a hell of a prospect."

Town's new season starts on 9 August with a home game against Vauxhall Motors. A pre-season game at Whitby suffered from bad weather but a home friendly against Ossett on Tuesday was more useful.

Town's next pre-season friendly is at home to Leeds United on Saturday. "We're looking for a good entertaining match full of passing, running, shooting, everything that's good about football," Williams added.

Williams added: "We're all excited now, the players are clicking again in the dressing room and now they're bringing it out on to the football field."

Ormsby's father, who also played for Scarborough, led Leeds to the 1987 FA Cup semi-final, when current current Town chairman Bill Fotherby was a director.
