Cambridge City have signed Teddy Sheringham's son, Charlie, for next season despite not knowing which division they will be competing in.
Cambridge have appealed to the Football Association following the Football Conference's decision to demote them after a failed ground inspection.
Lilywhites manager Gary Roberts said: "He's only 19 and certainly has room for improvement.
"But as he matures I think he's going to be a really good player."
Sheringham joined Cambridge City in March and scored four times in April.
Roberts added: "I've spoken to four other players I'd like to bring in from Conference South sides and I've had positive responses from them.
"One or two will have to decide whether they want to continue with those discussions after the FA have decided on our fate."
