Cambridge City offer five deals

Non-League

Cambridge City manager Gary Roberts is hoping to secure five more players for next season, even though the club are unsure of the division they will be in.

The Lilywhites have been told they will be demoted from Blue Square South after failing a ground inspection but have launched an appeal.

Roberts said: "The first indications suggest two out of the five [offered new deals] will definitely do it.

"The other three I would hope would want to be to be on board."

Left-back Craig Radcliffe became the latest player to commit his future to the club on Wednesday.

Roberts continued: "The team spirit over the last two months has been fantastic.

We've put no clause in their contracts with regard to releasing them from their contracts

"The players are all much the same in that they had highs and lows last year and weren't really as consistent as they should have been but we're willing to give them another opportunity."

With several players already signed up for next season, Roberts insists they have committed to stay with the club even if they are demoted.

"We've put no clause in their contracts with regard to releasing them from their contracts.

"If the worst scenario was to occur and we were relegated due to ground grading issues, obviously we'd be looking to bounce back straight sway and win the league below."
