St Paul's dominated the first half to beat St Peter 3-1 and become champions of the Jersey Football Combination.

They went into the break 2-0 ahead, but it was a different story in the second half when St Peter scored early and pressed hard for an equaliser.

But St Paul's secured the Championship with a third goal against the run of play with ten minutes left.

It was a dream end to the season for the St Paul's team, who also won the Wheway trophy earlier this month.

Manager Craig Culkin told BBC Radio Jersey he felt "a little bit overwhelmed" at his team's success.

"I think we're just absolutely delighted to have won the double."

It was Craig Russell who opened scoring for the champions with a powerful dipping shot from thirty yards after 24 minutes, followed by a Craig Leitch penalty just before half time.

Gary Lloyd made a number of excellent saves in the St Peter goal, and Leitch had another goal ruled offside while St Paul's commanded the first half.

Bradley Russell took advantage when St Paul's defence turned-off and made it 2-1 when the visitors controlled much of the second-half play.

Liam Walsh turned and volleyed a shot home against the run of play to gave St Paul's their first combination title since 2000.

"We knew it would be tough today," said Culkin.

"We played in spells, we had to weather a few storms."
