King's Lynn turned on the style to open up a slender lead at the top of the Southern Premier Division on Saturday, hammering Yate 5-0. The Linnets are two points clear of Halesowen, having played two games less than them or third-placed Chippenham.
Manager Keith Webb challenged his side to produce the goods and they responded magnificently at The Walks.
The convincing win would have been good enough to keep them top of the table but Team Bath, who were second, lost.
They were beaten by Hitchin which, on reflection, suggests that the goalless draw last Saturday was not a bad result for Lynn.
The University side have now dropped down to fourth place, but only three points behind the Linnets. With it being so tight though there can be no let-up in concentration.
In the Ridgeons Premier Division, Wroxham missed an opportunity to close the gap on the leaders.
With the top two, Soham Town Rangers and Needham Market, dropping points there was an opening for The Yachtsmen but they were held by Leiston, who are rapidly becoming a bogey side.
Wroxham managed to wrestle just a point from them last season and that is how it has ended up this campaign as well.
In fact it wasn't a particularly good day for Norfolk sides in the Premier. King's Lynn Reserves were the only ones to win, beating bottom club Newmarket Town 3-2.
In the race for promotion from Division One there was better news for two of our contenders. Diss Town won to stay third while Gorleston kept up their hopes with a victory at Whitton.
