Smith has relished his time at New Bucks Head |
Rob Smith is hoping to mark his second anniversary of being in charge at AFC Telford United by getting the club promoted from Blue Square North. "Telford can go all the way to the Blue Square Premier - and after that, who knows?" he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"It's been a fascinating two years, and I've never enjoyed myself so much."
When he took over in February 2006 he said: "This is the biggest non-League club in the Midlands," and his view has not changed since.
When Smith and his assistant Larry Chambers arrived at the New Bucks Head, Telford's progress had stalled.
Bernard McNally had been sacked as manager, and the club was on the slide.
But Smith and Chambers galvanised the place, brought in new players, and won promotion from the Unibond League last season.
Now Telford are second in the table behind Kettering and looking good for the play-offs.
"The club's in a much better position than ever, and the potential continues to grow," said fan Tony Edwards.
"Rob's done a fantastic job and exceeded our expectations," added fellow supporter Dennis Phillips."
