| Friday, 14 February, 2003, 10:19 GMT Doncaster sign Blunt Doncaster Rovers have signed Scarborough midfielder Jason Blunt after his loan spell with promotion rivals Yeovil Town was curtailed. Scarborough recalled the former Leeds United and Blackpool player in order to move him out in a fresh deal. It cleared the way for Seadogs boss Russell Slade to sign Hull City striker Gary Bradshaw on loan in time to face play-off rivals Halifax Town on Saturday. Scarborough are currently in administration and can only bring in new faces if others are moved out. Doncaster are delighted to capture 25-year-old Blunt, who had spent the last two years with Scarborough but lives near Doncaster's Belle Vue ground, on a free transfer until the end of the season. "We know he can play, but it's a chance for him to come and show what he can do," said Rovers boss Dave Penney, whose side has stuttered in the promotion race in recent weeks. "I'm pleased to have him because it adds to the competition in midfield. He can play anywhere across there, he's got plenty of energy, he can pass the ball and he puts his foot in. "We wanted to freshen things up a bit which we've done by him coming in and a few people coming back from injury." Doncaster have lost their last three games, including one in the FA Trophy, to slip 12 points behind Conference leaders Yeovil. And Penney is hoping that the signing of Blunt and the return to fitness of Chris beech, Warren Peyton, Paul Green and Fran Tierney will spark an upturn in fortunes. "We've been poor for the last three games and if we carry on like that we won't get in the play-offs. "There have been a few home truths this week, and I will pick a team accordingly on Saturday," warned Penney, whose side go to bottom club Kettering on Saturday. |
