Former Walsall forward Don Goodman is a target

Scarborough have been given the go-ahead to move into the transfer market to aid their play-off push.

But Nationwide Conference promotion rivals Halifax Town remain under a complete transfer embargo imposed by the Conference.

Following a request by the administrator currently running affairs at the McCain Stadium, the Conference will allow Scarborough to add to their squad if players move out.

"Scarborough have a limited ability to sign players, but the administrator has got to meet serious and stringent conditions," confirmed Conference chief executive John Moules.

"If they cancel a player's contract or send a player out on loan, they would be able to sign a player on a one-to-one basis, on loan or permanently provided that player meets stringent requirements."

It is thought the conditions imposed relate to financial matters, although Halifax's hands are still tied completely.

Moules added: "The difference between the two clubs is that Halifax are in administration and have a CVA (creditors' voluntary agreement) which is contradictory to FA regulations.

"Scarborough are only in administration. There is a huge difference."

Scarborough hope to sign Hull City striker Gary Bradshaw on loan.

And they have also targeted Exeter City's former Sunderland and Wolves striker Don Goodman and Darlington's ex-Leeds and Burnley midfielder Mark Ford.

Halifax had hoped to sign ex-Bradford and York City striker Neil Tolson but that move remains on ice.

The two former Nationwide League clubs meet at Scarborough on Saturday.
