| Dortmund seek to drop Ikpeba ![]() Ikpeba has not featured for Dortmund since February last year Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund have proposed to terminate the contract of Victor Ikpeba. The former African Player of the Year is contracted to Dortmund for a further year but coach Matthias Sammer has not used him since February 2001. It is a time when many German clubs are struggling to adjust to falling incomes. By axing Ikpeba, the club can save money on a player who has been permanently relegated to the bench. Ikpeba arrived at the German club in 1999 from Monaco, playing 21 times in his first season and scoring twice. But a personality conflict with Sammer has made his stay in German football very unpleasant. He was loaned to Spanish side Real Betis last year but played for only 15 minutes during the entire season. | See also: 24 Jul 02 | Africa 17 Jan 02 | Cup of Nations 06 Aug 02 | Africa Top Africans abroad stories now: Links to more Africans abroad stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
