Johannesburg to host African U20 championship

Johannesburg's Soccer City
South Africa is ready to stage the tournament after staging a successful World Cup last year

The African Youth Championship will take place in Johannesburg, according to the Confederation of African Football.

The tournament was moved to South Africa last month because of the continued conflict in Libya, which had been due to host the event.

The eight-team event will kick-off on 17 April and finish on 1 May.

New hosts South Africa replace Libya in Group A, alongside Mali, Lesotho and Egypt.

Group B is made up of teams from Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria and The Gambia.

The four semi-finalists will go through to represent Africa at the Under-20 World Cup, which takes place in Colombia in July and August this year.
