Rwanda's Sports Minister says the country will bid to host more international football tournaments.

This follows its successful hosting of the African Under-17 Championships.

Sports Minister Joseph Habineza said the success of the tournament will spur the country to bid for more tournaments in the future.

"We are negotiating to host the 2016 African Nations Championship (CHAN) and after that it could be the Africa Cup of Nations," Habineza told BBC Sport.

He said Rwanda is being urged to host more competitions by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

"Caf were happy with the organisation and want us to host more competitions," Habineza said.

"We will present our bid for the 2016 Chan to Caf at its next meeting which comes up in Lubumbashi this weekend," he continued.

"After Chan, we will turn our attention on the Cup of Nations."

"We'll discuss the requirements with Caf and start preparing for that," he stated.

Rwanda also hosted the African Under-20 tournament in 2009 and the Sports Minister did not rule out hosting global football tournaments either.

"We also want to look at the Under-17 and Under-20 World Cups."

"We want to use these competitions to welcome visitors to our country and boost our infrastructure as well as our local football," he added.

Burkina Faso won the just concluded tournament after beating the hosts 2-1 in a thrilling final.
