Nigeria drop defender Danny Shittu for Guinea qualifier
Shittu has been released by English Premier League side Bolton
Nigeria have dropped World Cup defender Danny Shittu for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea in Conakry on 10 October.
Super Eagles caretaker boss Austin Eguavoen has handed a maiden call to Valencia's Sunday Stephen, who has played for Spain at youth level.
Five players who missed Nigeria's opening Group I qualifier against Madagascar have been recalled.
Fifteen of Eguavoen's 30-man squad ply their trade in the local top-flight.
Shittu, who played at the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa in June, is without a club after he was released by English Premier League side Bolton earlier in September.
Eguavoen has recalled Taye Taiwo, Obinna Nsofor, Dele Adeleye, Yusuf Ayila and Dickson Etuhu to the squad after they missed the 2-0 win over Madagascar in Abuja three weeks ago.
Stephen, who has featured for Spain at Under-20 level, was handed his first call-up.
Guinea and Nigeria won their opening Group B matches, but Guinea lead the standings by virtue of having beaten Ethiopia 4-1 in Addis Ababa, while Nigeria defeated Madagascar 2-0.
