Defending champions TP Mazembe draw at home to Setif

Champions TP Mazembe of the DR Congo were held 2-2 at home by visiting Entente Setif of Algeria.

Mbenza Bedi put the Congolese ahead 15 minutes into the first half only for veteran striker Nabil Hemani to score either side of half-time for Setif.

Star striker Mputu Mabi scored from the penalty spot to ensure Mazembe got a share of the points.

Mazembe now have four points from two games in Group A and trail Esperance of Tunisia who have six.

Tunisia's Esperance took a big step towards the semi-final by beating Dynamos of Zimbabwe 1-0 in Rades, near Tunis.

Midfielder Oussama Darragi's converted penalty to put the 1994 champions top of Group A, Setif are third on one point with Dynamos bottom without a single point so far.

In Group B Algeria's JS Kabylie also made it two wins out of two with a 1-0 win over Nigeria's Heartland, striker Fares Hemitti scored the only goal of the game early in the second half.

In the other game in Group B six-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt scored in injury time to beat local rivals Ismaili 2-1 in a very ill tempered match.

After a timid first half, Ahly took the lead on 58 minutes through striker Mohamed Talaat and substitute Mohamed Abougreisha levelled 10 minutes from full-time.

Wael Gomaa was the unlikely matchwinner, the bald 34-year-old centreback exposed the aerial weakness of the visitors to head home three minutes into stoppage time.

His far-post winner handed Ahly three precious points ahead of a mid-August visit to leaders JS Kayblie.

Ismaili protested furiously after Gomaa scored, claiming veteran Ahly midfielder Ahmed Hassan fouled Ahmed Hegazi in the build-up to the goal.

The losers surrounded Malian referee Koman Coulibaly after he blew for full-time and police had to escort the match officials off the pitch at the 74,000-seat Cairo Stadium.

Coulibaly had angered Ismaili in the build-up to the Egyptian derby by telling local media how much he appreciated the warm welcome extended by Ahly officials and also praised their training facilities.

"The hospitality and friendliness of Ahly toward visitors cannot be questioned, but the referee should not have made those comments," said spokesman Alaa Wahid.

Kabylie have collected six points from two outings in the mini-league phase, record six-time champions Ahly four, 2009 runners-up Heartland one and 1969 title holders Ismaili lie bottom with none.
