Bochum midfielder Mimoun Azaouagh wants to become an Atlas Lion
Mimoun Azaouagh, who plays for Bochum in the German Bundesliga, is the latest African player to choose to represent the country of his birth.
Azaouagh wants to represent Morocco, after failing to make the step up from the Germany under-21 side to the senior team.
The 26-year-old has appeared six times for the under-21s.
But he now realises his international future belongs with the country of his birth and not the country in which he was brought up.
"Yes, it is right. I would like to play for Morocco," Azaouagh told Sport Bild magazine.
"The coach has convinced me. Everything will now be arranged."
Morocco coach Hassan Moumen visited Azaouagh in Bochum this week in a bid to convince him to represent his nation in future and turn his back on Germany, where he grew up after being born on the African continent.
