Paul Le Guen is set to be the new coach of Cameroon

Former Cameroon striker Patrick Mboma says that Paul Le Guen can lead the Indomitable Lions to the World Cup in South Africa next year.

Le Guen is set to take over from caretaker coach Thomas Nkono in charge of a Cameroon team that is struggling in the final phase of 2010 qualifiers.

They currently have just one point from their two games so far.

"He's ambitious, I don't think he's here just to go to the Africa Cup of Nations," Mboma told BBC Sport.

"It's a tough job but he has the talent to do it and Cameroon has good players too.

"Sportswise all the ingredients are there and we can get the results we expect - that means winning all our games and qualifying for the World Cup."

Mboma knows Le Guen well after the two played alongside each at French side Paris Saint-Germain in the early 1990's.

"I like the way he likes football, he has a special personality," Mboma added.

"He doesn't talk a lot to journalists or to people around him so it will be interesting to see how he reacts in the Cameroon atmosphere."

Le Guen's biggest success as a coach so far came at Lyon who he lead to three successive French league titles from 2003.
