Paul Le Guen is set to sign a six month contract as Cameroon coach

Cameroon are to appoint Paul Le Guen as their new coach, to replace Otto Pfister.

The French coach is to sign a six-month contract with the possibility of an extension if things go well.

The decision was announced by the country's new sports minister Michel Zoa.

Mohammed Iya, the President of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot) has been in Europe to talk to a shortlist of candidates.

Le Guen will arrive in Yaounde on 25 July to sign his contract.

He will team up with his assistant Yves Colleu.

Le Guen led Lyon to a succession of league titles in France, but struggled at Scottish giants Rangers and then at Paris Saint Germain.

His major task in charge of the Indomitable Lions will be to get them to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.

They are bottom of their group with just one point from two games so far.

They play back-to-back matches against group leaders Gabon in September.

Le Guen will take over from Thomas Nkono, who has been caretaker coach since German Otto Pfister suddenly quit in May.

Pfister left the squad after they arrived in Europe for a training camp, following the dismissal of his assistant and the imposition of several others.

The appointment of Pfister was mired in controversy, with the Sports Ministry making a decision which had been opposed by Fecafoot.
