Andre Bikey says the fact Cameroon coach Otto Pfister used to lead Togo will not help the Indomitable Lions when the two sides play in a 2010 World Cup qualifier next year.
Andre Bikey hopes Cameroon can qualify for the 2010 World Cup
Pfister coached Togo at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, but Bikey, who plays for English side Reading, thinks that a lot has changed for the Sparrow Hawks since then.
"Although he helped make that team [Togo], that doesn't mean to say that victory is guaranteed for us," the Cameroon defender said.
"A lot has changed with Togo since then and I am not expecting it to give us an advantage. It will be a hard game and possibly key to the group."
Cameroon play in Togo in the opening game of Group A in the final round of qualification before meeting Morocco and Gabon.
Despite being the top-ranked side in Africa, Reading defender Bikey says the West African giants are merely "joint favourites" to reach the World Cup from their pool alongside Togo and Morocco.
"It's a strong group because Morocco and Togo are two teams that have achieved a lot in the past," Bikey told BBC Sport.
"We will have to make an impact from the very beginning if we are to progress because it will be a fight to the end."
Cameroon are especially determined to qualify for the 2010 World Cup after narrowly missing out to the Ivory Coast in the final round of qualifiers last time around.
"In the Cameroon we still remember that as a 'faux pas'," added Bikey.
"It was difficult to put that behind us but that is in the past now and we have a new challenge to conquer.
"We are a team composed 100 per cent of professional, world class players and we will do everything to make it this time."
In the final round of qualification the group winners progress to the World Cup in South Africa in 2010 while the top three in each group will go to the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola in the same year.
