Kalou (right) celebrates his equaliser for Chelsea
ENGLAND
One of the most important goals of the weekend came from an Ivorian in the crunch tie between two of the favourites for the English Premier League title.
Salomon Kalou upstaged countryman Didier Drogba on his return from injury to salvage a draw for Chelsea against Manchester United with a late goal at Stamford Bridge.
Substitute Kalou grabbed an equaliser with a header 10 minutes from time to stretch Chelsea's home unbeaten run to 85 games.
Another Ivorian, Emmanuel Eboue, scored his first Premier League goal for Arsenal in a 3-1 win for the Gunners away to Bolton.
Eboue's goal sparked a comeback for Arsenal, after they conceded an early opener, as Nicklas Bendtner and Denilson sealed the victory to put Arsenal top.
SPAIN
There was just one African goalscorer in Spain as Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o was on target for Barcelona in an emphatic 6-1 away win at Sporting Gijon.
Another Cameroonian was among the weekend's most outstanding players, as goalkeeper Carlos Kameni made a string of fine saves for Espanyol in their 1-1 draw with Getafe.
FRANCE
Mali striker Mamadou Bagayoko scored both goals for Nantes in a 2-0 win against Valenciennes.
The win was Nantes' first of the season and lifted them off the bottom of the league.
Senegalese midfielder Mouhamadou Dabo also lifted his side out of the relegation zone as he scored the winner in Saint Etienne's 1-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain.
Algerian midfielder Rafik Saifi also found the net in Lorient's 1-1 draw with Caen, while Ivory Coast midfielder Emerse Fae opened the scoring for Nice in a 2-2 draw with Le Mans.
HOLLAND
Ghana striker Matthew Amoah capped a fine 3-0 away win for NAC Breda with a 90th minute winner at Roda JC.
GERMANY
Algerian Anther Yahia was on the scorsheet for VfL Bochum in a 1-1 draw at bottom side Cottbus.
