Egypt exact revenge on Malawi

African champions Egypt took full revenge for their away loss to Malawi last week by defeating them 2-0 in the reverse fixture in Cairo on Sunday.

After losing to the Flames in the Group 12 match last week, the hosts bounced back in style with two goals from Emad Moteab.

Egypt exploded out of the blocks to deny the visitors the chance to settle, before taking a deserved lead through the Al Ahly player after 17 minutes.

With that goal on the board, Hassan Shehata's men contented themselves with protecting their lead, but that did not stop them from wrapping up the result when Moteab notched his second six minutes after the restart.

The Egyptians now join DR Congo at the Group 12 summit, trailing only on goal difference.

DR Congo moved to the top of the group after strolling to an easy 5-1 win over Djibouti on Sunday.

Turkey-based striker Shabani Nonda grabbed a hat trick that helped the Simbas to the comfortable win in Kinshasa.

The Galatasaray player put his side ahead in the 10th minute and doubled the lead just before the break.

He completed his hat-trick two minutes after the interval before Tsholola Tshinyama Tiko and Dieumerci Mbokani made it 5-0.

Moussa Hirir grabbed the consolation goal for the visitors in second-half injury time.

Djibouti's defeat means they have no chance of advancing to the second phase of the qualifiers as they have no points with only two matches remaining.

The meeting between Egypt and DR Congo in the next round of matches in Kinshasa on 7 September is already shaping up to be a classic.
